Windows 98 in VirtualBox is the sole reason I started this blog.
I already know I can use SciTech Display Doctor to set the resolution to 4:3 and full color, but I want a 16:9 resolution instead of a 4:3 one Just wondering are there any ways to change the screen resolution of Windows 98 in VirtualBox in 1366x768. I'm new to VirtualBox and I don't know a lot. The OS installed and runs fine in VirtualBox but when I go full screen, there is a black border around the screen. I installed VirtualBox on my Windows 7 computer and used a Windows 98 SE disc to install that OS in VirtualBox.
I want to play some old computer games that only play on Windows 95/98.
I'd like to be able to run windows 98 in a VM but have been unable to alter the screen resolution from the basic 480 x 600 (guest additions not supported? for windows 98? I've been using Virtualbox for all my Linux VMs and I'm very impressed with the package.

By configuring the settings as shown below, you can resolve Win 95 and Win 98 display resolution error.

Note: You will receive a warning during the installation of the guest additions that effectively says they cannot be completely installed because the removable media cannot be restarted.
Once the installation finishes, ignore any warnings or errors and resize your virtual machine window to complete the installation of the operating system.
A terminal window will open and the installation will begin.
Go to "Devices" -> "Insert Guest Additions CD image.".
Start the virtual machine and boot into your installation image.
While the virtual machine is off, go to "Settings" -> "Storage" and add an optical drive to the IDE Controller (there are probably several ways to do this, but this is the route I took).
The solution was to add an additional optical drive to the virtual machine, which allows the guest additions image to mount after booting into the installation image.
